Dr. Jianguo Wang, founder and CEO As an entrepreneur, Dr. Jianguo Wang has taken every step in his career to exercise excellence in the technology field. This is best reflected through the two companies that he founded— LerTech and Sinomags.
LerTech was founded in 2009 to develop and produce high-resolution scanners that can check banknotes for forgery protection. “The security features that we have to find here are present on the banknote with magnetic ink and can only be recognized with highly sensitive magnetic sensors,” he mentions. LerTech started at a time when ATMs were expanded to include the function of depositing money, which made it necessary to check the banknotes for authenticity. “We worked hard to develop and produce an innovative and safe system. We knew that the multiplier would be very high if we were to be successful with our product. In addition to a highly motivated team and the willingness to work hard, we fully relied on magneto-resistive sensor technology,” states Dr. Wang.
He further explains that Magnetoresistive effects are all effects that describe the change in the electrical resistance of a material when an external magnetic field is applied.
There are three different types, the anisotropic magnetoresistive effect (AMR), which is the longest known magnetoresistive effect, the GMR giant magneto-resistance effect, and at least the tunnel magnetic resistance or TMR effect.
Such systems existed before, but they were based on technologies such as hall or flux gate. We wanted to improve this system by using our specially developed MR sensors
“The fast development of that sensor technology is connected to the dynamic development of the personal computer in the 80th and in the 90th. I have always been fascinated by this technology. I did my doctorate on the subject of TMR sensors and I am convinced that there will be many more possible uses for these sensors in the future,” says Dr. Wang.
After experiencing tremendous success through LerTech, Dr. Wang decided to conceptualize Sinomags in 2013. “At that time there was a high level of air pollution especially in china and measures such as the decarbonization of the auto-motive industry and the generation of clean electricity through solar and wind energy began worldwide,” he mentions. With a view to the coming generations, Dr. Wang wanted to make a contribution and help push these measures forward.
He had the vision that Sinomags products should help to create a better future and thus started to design high precise current measurement systems for wind/solar converter, electric vehicle, and other application related to improve the environmental conditions. “Such systems existed before, but they were based on technologies such as hall or flux gate. We wanted to improve this system by using our specially developed MR sensors,” mentions Dr. Wang.
As the dynamic of Sinomags’ MR-sensors was much higher, it provided the company more freedom in the design of the current measurement systems. “We are mostly faster and more precise with our systems,” says Dr. Wang. Because of the strong growing demand for current sensors, the capacity of its wafer fab in Portugal is on the limit, and to fill that gap, Sinomags purchased the German company, Sensitec.
With this, Sinomags not only had another production line for the MR chips, furthermore, but the company also became very strong in encoder technology which increases the portfolio on products and applications. “When we set on the TMR version of the MR Sensors, Sensitec is very strong in AMR and GMR, it’s a perfect synergy, we are very happy about that deal,” informs Dr. Wang.
