New technology, paired with a growing network of rooftop farms, indoor and vertical agricultural facilities, is opening up a slew of new prospects for both local residents and companies.
FREMONT, CA: Climate change, ecological degradation, and Covid-19 have served as reminders that we urgently need to construct new food security systems and decentralized food supply chains. Here are three ways agtech is improving farming:
Smart Farming
The majority of people are still unaware that “smart” farming differs significantly from traditional farming. While some people associate a farmer with a pitchfork and a tractor, the new generation of farmers may manage their farms using a smartphone app while flying a drone and utilizing various sensors and machine-learning skills. Furthermore, agriculture is no longer limited to enormous fields of crops in the countryside. Thanks to recent technological developments, we can now grow food indoors in urban surroundings and even on board the International Space Station.
Urban Farming
The Agtech sector can aid in the fight against inner-city food deserts by allowing innovative food-growing practices to thrive in previously unfavorable environments. New technology, paired with a growing network of rooftop farms and indoor and vertical agricultural facilities, is opening up a slew of new prospects for local residents and companies. Indeed, with a bit of imagination, we can turn warehouses, abandoned retail malls, and multistory parking garages into urban micro-farms. Making our cities farm-ready will result in “greener” cities and a new farming environment that will allow fresh food to be grown close to where people live.
Better Farming
One of the most important industries of the future, sustainable agriculture technologies, or Agtech as it is usually known, is currently on the increase. This new industry sector is dedicated to transforming farming from a labor-intensive occupation to a high-tech profession. Agriculture can become significantly more efficient, accurate, and resilient in the face of environmental difficulties and extreme weather by incorporating big data management technology, smart sensors, artificial intelligence systems, and predictive analytics into farming. This isn’t the only advantage that this new industry can offer.
