Sarcos Robotics and T-Mobile Collaborate to Bring 5G to the Guardian XT Robot

Companies are working together to integrate 5G technology into industrial robots capable of executing highly dexterous tasks in hazardous environments.

FREMONT, CA: Sarcos Robotics, a pioneer in developing robots that assist humans in improving productivity and safety, and T-Mobile, Americas 5G leader, partners to incorporate T-Mobile 5G into the Sarcos Guardian' XT highly dexterous mobile industrial robot. The Guardian XT robot is a remote-controlled robotic device meant to assist humans in working safely in dangerous environments, such as lifting large goods or utilizing power tools at great heights. With T-Mobile 5G integration, the firms hope to improve remote operation performance and response time, allowing robots to complete jobs more swiftly and in sync with their operators' motions.

The Guardian XT robotic system is an upper-body version of Sarcos' award-winning Guardian® XO® full-body, a battery-powered industrial exoskeleton. It is platform-independent and may be mounted to various mobile bases to access difficult-to-reach or elevated regions. It applies to multiple industries, including aerospace, automotive, aviation, construction, defense, industrial production, maritime, and oil & gas. The Guardian XO and Guardian XT robots are projected to be available for purchase by the end of 2022.

T-Mobile 5G powers remote viewing and teleoperation

The cooperation between T-Mobile and Sarcos begins with integrating 5G to create a remote viewing system powered by T-high Mobile's bandwidth, low latency 5G network. Workers, supervisors, outside specialists, and others can witness activities being completed by the robot as an operator in the field directs it, whether they are stationed locally or remotely. The second phase of development is intended to incorporate total T-Mobile 5G wireless network connectivity, allowing the Guardian XT robot to be teleoperated over 5G, offering operators additional flexibility and boosting their safety by allowing them to execute duties from a distance.

Sarcos stated on April 6, 2021, that it would go public through a merger with Rotor Acquisition Corp. (NYSE: ROT.U, ROT, and ROT WS) (Rotor), a publicly-traded particular purpose acquisition firm. The acquisition is planned to complete in the third quarter of 2021, with the merged company's standard stock trading on Nasdaq under the ticker code STRC.
