Coomtech Clean Technologies: Enroute to Zero-Emission Drying Technology

For over 100 years, the basic principles used for the drying of bulk raw materials has seen little change, until now. Current technology, thermal drying, although simple and historically cost-effective—thanks to the availability of cheap fossil fuel energy—is a highly inefficient process involving high temperatures and wasted heat, along with generation of high levels of pollutants. This energy hungry and polluting process is coming under increased focus from shareholders, customers and governments.

Helping industrial plant managers break away from this status quo and bring sustainable change is Coomtech Clean Technologies’ patented non-thermal kinetic air-drying technology that uses high velocity, low-pressure air to remove moisture—thereby reducing energy costs and carbon emissions, supporting the drive for a circular economy.

Coomtech’s unique non-thermal drying technology dries bulk raw materials by shearing the moisture off particles via controlled turbulent airflow warmed to an average of only 85˚C. Moreover, it is a lean phase process that can adjust its performance based on the material being dried. It presents a singular and strong viable alternative to thermal drying, where the temperature is often exceeding 400˚C to vaporise moisture. These low temperatures means that Coomtech enabled plants can now be powered by renewable and recycled energy-zero emissions drying.

While bringing sustainability through innovation is the core focus of Coomtech, its patented system is also reasonably priced to lower the barrier of entry for clients. Coomtech follows a modular approach to implementing its technology, much like Lego bricks. This allows clients to begin with a piece of a puzzle and scale it progressively—thereby making the plant highly efficient and simple to adopt and with added flexibility.

Coomtech’s solution is therefore not just logical but ecological. This can also be found in the fact that the materials developed by the industrial plants after implementing Coomtech are greener, more recyclable, and less toxic. Since Coomtech leverages a gentler drying approach, previously unusable or uneconomical materials can be developed into commercially viable products, recycling of batteries is one example area of interest

“Our technology brings large-scale industrial decarbonisation innovation that facilitates unprecedented energy efficiency and improved productivity,” states Philip Jarvis, CEO of Coomtech Clean Technologies.
Complementing Coomtech’s patented drying technology is its flexible run mode (FRM) that allows clients to make their business workflow more manageable. The module design enables plant managers to maximise the system efficiency by selectively turning the plant’s performance up or down to match the production requirements of the day. The FRM model makes it possible for a plant to dry multiple types of materials simultaneously and introduces rolling maintenance to minimise downtime—all leading to increased production optimisation and improved customer service for clients.

As a technology company, Coomtech will partner with industry delivery partners and integrators to make its breakthrough technology available to every plant operator. Detailed performance data analysis of Coomtech’s technology has recorded a reduction in energy wastage and carbon emission by 75 percent. A feather in the cap is the company’s recent honour of attaining the Solar Impulse Efficient Solution Label, a credible symbol granted by the environmental non-profit organisation, Solar Impulse Foundation, validating the innovative spirit of Coomtech in meeting the high standards of both sustainability and profitability.

Such laurels and market receptivity are propelling Coomtech further in its innovation journey for sustainable drying technology. In agreement, Coomtech believes that they are barely scratching the surface of its unique technology applications and invites more industry peers to join hands with them in an attempt to advance the technology and embrace the route to cost savings and net-zero emissions.
