JULY 20226 The Expanding World of Wearable TechEditorialWith the changing technology, it's now easier for us to track helpful information, which makes our lives seamless and effortless. But do you know these days you can wear technology to keep track of your health and fitness or complete your routine tasks? Maybe you are aware of some gadgets to track your health, but there are smart glasses, rings, hearable, clothing, helmets, etc., that will change the way you do your regular tasks. Wearable technologies are miniature devices that enable you to keep track of your routine tasks and connect with your device ecosystem. Understandably, features designed to help us monitor our health and stay safe will remain a top priority for developers of wearable technology during 2022. Many smart watchmakers are now adding blood oxygen (Sp02) sensors to their devices as standard, ECG monitors and other sensors that provide both warnings that something may be wrong with us.As with headsets, in 2022 we can expect to see smart clothing increasingly adopted by mainstream consumers. This move is often driven by collaborations between fashion and tech brands, such as the Levi Commuter x Jacquard jacket, which allows users to control their phone and access Google services as well as track the location of their Uber using gestures.Owing to the limited hardware space, wearable original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are constantly on the lookout for miniaturized and powerful communication protocols that can operate on ultra-low power. The development of Systemon-Chip (SoC)-based Bluetooth Low-Energy (BLE) controllers is enabling OEMs to enhance power support to the devices, as well as to minimize device sizes and system cost. All the trends are pointing towards further adoptions across new areas and there is no reason for that to change. Good wearables fill two functions, they make our lives easier and they let us do things more efficiently. These are things we desire both privately and professionally. If the manufacturers can find a good fit and fulfill both of these functions it's going to be a success.Let us know your thoughts.Rachel SmithManaging Editoreditor@appliedtechnologyreview.comCopyright © 2022 ValleyMedia Inc.
